You'll know now that the Independent typed Anne Enright's name into Google a few days ago and found her LRB piece on the McCanns. What's surprising to me isn't that the journalist quoted lines independent of their context, but that throughout this whole fiasco, a two-week old LRB essay is treated by journalists as if some obscure, effectively inaccessible, 30-year old undergraduate essay from which a line quoted out of context would never be noticed as such.
Journalists know that the LRB piece is not behind any pay per view wall, right?
