We're fans of Kerouac around here. Despite not having read enough of his books, any time I try to write a piece of fiction for the English essay, I end-up with prose written awfully, but vaguely imitating the style of the Kerouac, the best of the beats. Such is his influence on me. So, readers might be interested to learn that a scroll - namely the manuscript of Kerouac's tour de force, semi-authobiographical 'On The Road' was found in an airtight black suitcase passed through a security checkpoint at the Indianapolis International Airport on its way to San Francisco. For those unaware, Kerouac wrote by selotaping a couple of score's worth of paper together, before placing it into his typewriter. He then proceeded to type, without stopping for reflection, for hours and hours, only halting to change into a new, dry shirt. Or so legend has it. On The Road made the change from scroll to book, but it has never been made into a movie. Whether such a move would ruin the text is hard to tell, but it would certainly bring Kerouac to a wider audience. Francis Coppola has made preliminary movies several times, but apparently it's an extremely hard novel to script. Coppola finally got the green light on the script in August of last year, and jackkerouac.com are telling everyone to check back for details concering, among other things, casting.
