If you find yourself awake, and preferably sober, at this late hour, you might like to check out one of the most astute, constructive and thorough arguments which seems to have come from nowhere. Firstly, I might mention that we had the foresight to
interview the two academic players involved in the debate, before it had actually begun.
Brilliant, Disillusioned Lefty. Truly brilliant. Fiona De Londras, of Mental Meanderings,
explained why she was angered by Oirechtas Committee's report which attempted to deal with the nature of marriage and has proved controversial in its declaration that the institution of marriage should remain exclusive to 'man and woman' relationships. Richard Waghorne took issue with the post in his
counter-argument. Tonight, Fiona
responded to allegations of hysteria as well as the rest of Richard's rebuttal.
It wasn't long before Richard's
counter-rebuttal appeared on my Bloglines account. I'll warn everyone that it's not short, not at all, but I found it very enjoyable. Not to be left behind, Wulfbeorn decided he'd post
his thoughts on the issue, too. Firstly, you'll be interested to learn that we've already
weighed-in, but one should expect to see, soon, some further comment on this blog concerning the debate and the issues surrounding the debate, but for now I'm sorry to announce that the results are in, and they do not look good. If you hope to read the entire debate - excluding, for some absurd reason, our particularly pertinent interviews - you have another 7443 words to go.
Update 1: There's more -
De Londras still disagrees with Waghorne, and
Waghorne still disagrees with De Londras. Paul - of
Pure Function - has thrown his appropriately thorough
thoughts into the debate. Meanwhile, crowds wait impatiently outside the Disillusioned Lefty offices for someone to think and write of something that hasn't been said already on the subject.
